About this service
Decking is dangerous when it is dirty. The film of algae that forms on shaded timber turns to ice-rink under a bit of rain, and the moss that grows between the boards keeps the wood wet and rotting from the surface down.
Timber has to be cleaned with respect: too much pressure and the surface fibres lift, leaving a furry, splintered deck that soaks up water even faster. We clean along the grain with a fan jet at reduced pressure, treat the growth so it does not return in weeks, and leave the boards ready for oil or stain if you want to finish them.
Part of Driveways & Patios. Rotary surface cleaning for driveways, patios, paths and decking, followed by re-sanding and optional Smartseal sealing so the finish lasts and the weeds stay away.

Why it matters
Why decking and fences need the right pressure
- 01
High pressure across the grain raises the fibres and permanently roughens the surface.
- 02
Composite boards scar if a narrow jet is held too close.
- 03
Fence panels are thin; too much force blows through the slats and loosens the panel.
- 04
Algae left untreated returns within a season on any shaded timber.

How we do it
Our decking & fences process
- 01
Clear and treat
Furniture and pots moved, gaps cleared of leaves, and an algae treatment applied.
- 02
Clean along the grain
A wide fan nozzle at reduced pressure follows the length of each board so fibres stay flat.
- 03
Detail
Balustrades, spindles, steps and fence posts are cleaned by hand and lance.
- 04
Rinse and dry
A thorough rinse; the timber then needs a few dry days before any oil or stain is applied.
State-of-the-art equipment
The kit that makes it safe and thorough
Pressure washer with variable pressure
Dialled down for softwood and composite, with fan nozzles rather than turbo jets.
Timber-safe algae treatment
Kills growth in the grain and between boards without bleaching the wood.
Soft brushes and hand tools
For balustrades, cut ends and the gaps between boards.
Benefits
What decking & fences does for your property
Slip hazard removed
The green film goes, and grip comes back.
Wood preserved
Gentle cleaning extends the life of timber that would otherwise rot from the surface.
Ready for treatment
A clean, dry deck takes oil or stain evenly and looks new.
Composite-safe
Manufacturer-appropriate methods for Trex, Millboard and similar boards.
Honest expectations. We will always tell you before we start if a surface has damage that cleaning cannot fix — cracked tiles, failed pointing, UV-yellowed plastic — so there are no surprises on the day.
FAQs
Decking & Fences questions
Done wrongly, yes — which is why we work along the grain at reduced pressure with a fan nozzle. Done correctly it lifts dirt and algae and leaves the surface smooth.
