About this service
Modern render looks fantastic on the day it is finished and then, within a few years, the north- and east-facing elevations start to turn green, orange or black. This is not the render failing — it is algae and mould feeding on moisture in the surface.
Soft washing is the manufacturer-approved answer. A professional biocide solution is applied at low pressure, left to work, then rinsed gently. The organic growth dies and the render returns to its original colour without any of the pitting, blown patches or driven-in water that pressure washing causes.
Part of Walls & Glass. Low-pressure biocide treatments for render and brickwork, and reverse-osmosis pure water for windows, conservatories and solar panels — a spot-free finish with no ladders on your walls.

Why it matters
The problem with pressure washing render
- 01
High pressure forces water behind the render and into the substrate, which leads to blown patches and cracking.
- 02
The jet erodes the coloured top coat of through-coloured render, leaving permanent stripes.
- 03
Blasting spreads spores rather than killing them, so the algae comes back within months.
- 04
Soft washing kills the growth at the root and leaves a residual effect that slows regrowth.

How we do it
Our render cleaning process
- 01
Inspect and protect
We identify the render system — K-Rend, monocouche, silicone, acrylic, painted or pebbledash — and cover plants and pre-wet surrounding surfaces.
- 02
Apply
The soft-wash solution is applied evenly from the bottom up with a low-pressure pump so it cannot penetrate the render.
- 03
Dwell
The treatment is left to work on the organic growth, with heavy areas re-treated.
- 04
Rinse and review
A gentle pure-water rinse follows. Some staining continues to fade over the following days and weeks as the dead growth weathers off.
State-of-the-art equipment
The kit that makes it safe and thorough
Soft-wash pump system
Chemical-resistant low-pressure delivery that applies solution without any impact on the surface.
Professional biocides
Used at the correct dilution for the level of growth and neutralised responsibly.
Pure-water rinse
Reverse-osmosis water leaves render streak-free — no tap-water mineral marks.
Benefits
What render cleaning does for your property
Manufacturer-safe
The method render companies recommend, so your render warranty is not put at risk.
Kills, not spreads
Growth is destroyed at source, giving far longer-lasting results than washing alone.
Original colour back
The tint of the render returns rather than being bleached or stripped.
Whole-house lift
Clean render transforms a property more than any other single exterior clean.
Honest expectations. We will always tell you before we start if a surface has damage that cleaning cannot fix — cracked tiles, failed pointing, UV-yellowed plastic — so there are no surprises on the day.
FAQs
Render Cleaning questions
Green algae usually disappears within hours. Red algae and black mould die on the day but their staining can take days or a few weeks to fully weather away, which is normal for soft washing.
