About this service
Moss loves the tree-lined roads and damp winters of Hampshire and Surrey. It takes hold on the shaded north side of a roof first, then spreads until every tile edge is carrying a green cushion that holds water against the surface all year round.
MC6 removes it the right way: by hand, from safe access, with every scraping bagged rather than washed into your gutters. We then treat the whole roof with a professional biocide that kills the remaining spores and keeps the roof clean long after we have driven away.
Part of Roof & Gutters. Roof moss removal, gutter clearing and fascia cleaning carried out from the ground or with proper access equipment — never by blasting a roof with a pressure washer.

Why it matters
Why a mossy roof is more than a cosmetic problem
- 01
Moss holds moisture against tiles, which freezes and expands in winter and causes tiles to crack or spall.
- 02
Clumps slide off in heavy rain and block gutters and downpipes, sending water down the walls.
- 03
Lifted tiles let wind-driven rain reach the felt and battens beneath — the start of a damp loft.
- 04
Heavy moss growth is one of the first things a surveyor flags when a property goes on the market.

How we do it
Our roof cleaning process
- 01
Survey and access plan
We look at the pitch, tile type, condition and safe access points, and agree how the roof will be reached — roof ladders, tower or platform.
- 02
Manual scraping
Specialist scrapers lift moss from each tile without disturbing the lap. Nothing is blasted; loose or slipped tiles are flagged to you.
- 03
Clear-down
Scrapings are collected and bagged. Gutters and downpipes are cleared so the first heavy rain drains freely.
- 04
Biocide treatment
A low-pressure biocide application kills the spores left behind. The roof continues to lighten over the following weeks as the weather does its work.
State-of-the-art equipment
The kit that makes it safe and thorough
Roof scrapers and ridge tools
Shaped blades for concrete, clay and slate profiles so moss comes away cleanly and tiles stay put.
Safe access equipment
Roof ladders, tower systems and harnesses rather than leaning a ladder on your guttering.
Low-pressure biocide sprayer
Applies the treatment evenly at a pressure that cannot force water under tiles.
Gutter vacuum
Ground-based vacuum clears any moss that reaches the gutters on the day.
Benefits
What roof cleaning does for your property
Protects the roof
Removes the moisture trap that causes frost damage and tile deterioration.
Prevents blockages
Stops the cycle of moss clumps blocking gutters every autumn.
Long-lasting
The biocide keeps working after we leave, so the roof stays cleaner for longer.
Kerb appeal
A clean roof lifts the whole look of the house and reassures buyers and surveyors.
Honest expectations. We will always tell you before we start if a surface has damage that cleaning cannot fix — cracked tiles, failed pointing, UV-yellowed plastic — so there are no surprises on the day.
FAQs
Roof Cleaning questions
No. High pressure strips the protective surface from concrete tiles, forces water under the lap and can dislodge tiles. We scrape by hand and use a low-pressure biocide treatment — slower, but it is the method the tile manufacturers themselves recommend.
